Story from Sri Lanka

Published by xeronian at 12:57 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

In Tambapanni Island, Sri Lanka, while the elder monk (mahathera) Dhamadinna, of Talangara, was expounding the Apannaka sutta in the great monastery of Tissa (Tissa mahavihara), he turned his fan face downward, and an opening right down to Avici appeared. Then he turned his fan face upward and an opening right up to the brahma world appeared. Having thus aroused religious awakening from fear of hell and longing for the bliss of heaven, the elder taught the dhamma. Many among his audience were enlightened – some became stream enterers, some became once returners, some became non returners also known as holy ones.
