Importance of Clear Comprehending
The next most important word, sayadaw U Silananda explained, is ‘clearly comprehending’. Clearly comprehending simply means clearly seeing. Whatever object is taken by the mind, it is seen clearly. Clearly means to be seen thoroughly, seeing with wisdom. When a meditator takes to and concentrates on breathing, he sees the breath clearly. He sees that the breath happens to be that it arises and disappears and that at the moment there are only the breaths and the awareness of the breaths and simply is no other thing to be called a person or an individual. Such understanding is what is called clear comprehension. The attainment of such clear comprehension marks a significant development on the path of purification.
